The Forest Bioproducts Division has begun offering a series of Webinars on topics of interest to the Division. These Webinars will supplement the technical information we provide at the Annual Meeting and help us serve members throughout the year. Our next webinar is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 9 at 2 pm Mountain Time. Anthony Nickens, Vice President of the Energy and Electrosynthesis Group at Ceramatec (Salt Lake City, Utah) will be our speaker. He will discuss some of the exciting applications of advanced ceramics and other Ceramatec technology for biofuels and green energy. Should be an exciting topic for chemical engineers and many others.

Bio for Anthony Nickens
Anthony is the Vice President of the Energy and Electrosynthesis Group at Ceramatec, Inc. Ceramatec, a subsidiary of CoorsTek, is an advanced research and development company specializing in novel waste treatment systems, energy systems, synthetic fuel production, gas generation, and next generation materials. Anthony directly works with Fortune 100/500 companies and government leaders to tailor Ceramatec's research efforts to meet their unique and challenging requirements. He has a distinct passion for customer satisfaction and win/win business agreements. His efforts have directly lead to new levels of business growth for Ceramatec.
Prior to joining Ceramatec, Anthony served in the federal government in various leadership and engineering positions in the Office of Naval Research and Naval Sea Systems Command. He directly oversaw the successful development of new shipboard energy systems, various waste management systems, and led the Navy's efforts to develop and qualify non-CFC based refrigerants and new fire fighting systems. He has co-authored 14 technical papers and a paper on engineering leadership.
In parallel to his business career, Anthony also holds the rank of CAPT (0-6) in the Navy Reserves and has served 4 Command tours and is currently the Commanding Officer of a Reserve Unit based in San Diego, CA that supports the Office of Naval Research.
His military awards include two Command Excellence awards, a Naval Meritorious Service Medal, Naval Commendation Medal (with three gold stars), a Naval & Marine Corps Achievement Medals) with three gold stars), a Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal.
Regarding Anthony's education, he holds several degrees including a (1) Masters of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War Collage, (2) Master of Science, majoring in chemical engineering, from the University of Florida, (3) Masters of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology, and (4) Bachelor of Science (magna cum laude) from North Carolina State University. In addition, Anthony is a graduate of University of Virginia's Darden School of Business Executive Program, and the Defense Systems Management College's Program Managers Course.
Anthony was born in Sanford, N.C. and is married to his lovely wife Kim, a native of the great state of Montana. They have two very active teenage kids. The family resides in the beautiful city of Sandy, Utah.
